Rainy smells of dust, at summer's eve,
Scents of cut grass, drifting in the breeze.
Early morning breakfast, evening shade,
Grass worn out where the children play.
Red buds blooming in the early spring.
Every song I heard my Mother sing.
Swaying in a hammock, whispered prayers,
Every moment with my family shared.
Soft kisses on my sweetheart's cheek,
The same soft kisses offered back to me.
My children speaking gently in my ear,
Laughing with my friends, till brought to tears.
All the first times life will let us dance,
Knowing love gives all, a second chance.
The last good nights, echoed through the rooms,
Rocking chairs and babies, lullabies for tunes,
The last kiss I placed on Mother's cheek,
Giving strength to someone who was weak.
Friends that time has tested to be true,
Family gatherings in late afternoon.
The safety felt when children all are home,
Just some of the good things I have known.
